Working within a large retail company I see so much single use plastic - that deep down I know doesn't get recycled like it should - I used to be able to push this thought to the back of my mind, which is now quite upsetting to think about.
After doing lots of research online I came to understand that there are four major offenders within the single use world; these are plastic bags, water bottles, take away coffee cups and straws.
So the next question was, how can I avoid them? I already carry a reusable keep cup (I get a 30c discount at uni if I bring my own) and try to carry reusable shopping bags, but I'm not perfect with either of these. I decided to purchase a stainless steel reusable water bottle and straw, and vowed to use them everywhere.
Over the past few weeks I've been super good about carrying my small amount of reusables with me, but still find myself slipping here and there. I've been late to work and left my bottle on the counter at home, or I wasn't planning to do this much shopping and so I didn't bring enough reusable bags with me. While it's very frustrating, I try to remind myself that no one is perfect and little slip ups are going to happen.
Going forward I'd like to learn more about what I can do to reduce my waste, I'm going to try and focus on the single use items that are so heavily ingrained into my life that I don't even consider them as optional.
Are there any ways you're trying to limit your waste?
Love and light,
Vasi-Marie xx
